The late, great Bear Bryant once said, “There is a big difference in wanting to and willing to.” For a while, Southern Roots was a dream. It was an expected treat at family gatherings, parties, and tailgates for Alabama Crimson Tide Football games. After the first sip, so many people would tell me, “It really is the best. You should sell this stuff.” I wanted it to become more, but life was in the way and I was not willing.
Growing up on the Tombigbee River in Lavaca, AL, I learned to be a great cook and creating recipes made me happy. I spent decades managing and owning several successful restaurants. However, like many, 2020 brought on one of the most significant adversities of my life. COVID-19 closed everything including my businesses. I didn’t know what to do, but suddenly life was no longer in the way.
I was willing, and with the encouragement from friends, Southern Roots Bloody Mary Mix was born. Of course, this is only a small taste of how Southern Roots came to be. Bear Bryant also said “There’s a lot of blood, sweat, and guts between dreams and success,” and he was not wrong! I hope Southern Roots brings you the belief that anything is possible with hope, determination, and a whole lot of love.
